The University of Farmers, which was created by Farmers Insurance Group of Companies, earned five learning and development awards from Corporate University Exchange (CUX) at the eighth-annual CUX Awards for Excellence and Innovation in Corporate Learning.
CUX is a provider of corporate education research, benchmarking and advisory services that help organizations transform corporate learning.
This years gala was held Feb. 27 in Orlando, Fla. Its purpose is to recognize and honor learning corporations in the public and private sectors that develop exciting programs that lead to measurable improvements in employee and business performance.
The University of Farmers was officially dedicated Nov. 3. The claims, leadership and management facility is in Agoura Hills, Calif.
Paul Hopkins, Farmers Insurance CEO, said the University of Farmers is a national institution that offers training to 15,000 Farmers Insurance agents, 500 district managers and 10,000 claims staff.
The CUX Awards recognize performance in these areas:
- Alignment. This area relates to the furthering of corporate goals through learning and development efforts.
- The University of Farmers earned first place, or an Excellence Award, for Alignment.
- Marketing. This area relates to the development and implementation of innovative communications and branding strategies to promote the corporate university.
- The University of Farmers earned second place, or a Best Practices Award, for Marketing.
- Measurement. This area relates to the creation of tools and techniques to measure the value of an organization’s investment in learning.
- The University of Farmers earned an Excellence Award for its approach to tracking and measuring learning results.
- Launching. This area relates to the successful start of a corporate university, leadership academy of newly branded component of the learning organization.
- The University of Farmers earned a Best Practices Award for its new District Manager University program.
Other areas of recognition at the CUX Awards for Excellence and Innovation in Corporate Learning, according to the CUX Web site, are:

- Addressing business challenges by using resources available through a college or university.
- Leadership Development
- Creating high-impact learning programs geared specifically toward managers, senior leaders and high-potential talent.

CUX was founded in 1997, and the goal of its research and services is to improve business results by maximizing corporate investments in training and development.
