Chicago — March 6
Staff Management, a provider of vendor-on-premise staffing and management solutions, has been selected as a charter member of a new, voluntary U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) program designed to improve legal workforce compliance.
The staffing firm was chosen from 300 candidates to be one of nine charter members to the ICE Mutual Agreement between Government and Employers program (IMAGE).
IMAGE partnerships promote the use of tools, best practices and continuing education to ensure the hiring of a legal workforce.
As the only staffing company among the nine-member group, Staff Management has a unique opportunity to influence the development of hiring standards that might guide the entire staffing industry, said Chief Operating Officer Joan Davison.
“Our involvement in the IMAGE program reflects our commitment to having a proper balance between demand for labor and social responsibility,” Davison said. “As a charter member, we’ll have access to critical information and best practices that will help us educate and motivate the business community and continue to emulate these standards in our own practices.”
Under the program, ICE will share information with employers on the latest illegal schemes used to circumvent legal hiring processes.
Initiated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in July 2006, the program provides a self-assessment of hiring practices and helps uncover vulnerabilities to illegal activity related to immigration status.
Technical tools to verify Social Security numbers for W-2 purposes are integrated with best practices, assuring that Staff Management’s employees are legally eligible for employment.
ICE also will provide training and education to IMAGE partners on proper hiring procedures, fraudulent document detection and anti-discrimination laws.
“I commend those companies who are partnering with us in the IMAGE program,” said ICE Assistant Secretary Julie Myers. “By working with ICE to combat unlawful employment, these companies are making an important contribution to our shared homeland security mission. Staff Management is ensuring it will have a legal, stable workforce by implementing best practices and using available technology and other tools.”
Beside Staff Management, other employers participating include Aluminum Precision Products; Atlas Pallet Inc.; Colcon Corp.; Colorado Structures Inc.; General Dynamics Corp.; Hitch Enterprises Inc.; National Association of Foreign Trade Zones; and Systems Painters and Drywall IILP.
