Wawa, one of the nation’s premier convenience store operations, credits its success to a dedication toward customer needs.
Its vision is “to simplify our customers’ daily lives,” and with the help of Deploy Solutions, the chain will apply that vision to its recruiting and retention efforts through automation, using the Deploy Enterprise Talent Suite.
Deploy Solutions, a provider of enterprise talent management software and services, will help Wawa recruit and hire employees who will not only spread Wawa’s vision but also exemplify the company’s core values: value people, delight customers, embrace change, do the right thing, do things right and have passion for winning.
“The Deploy system will facilitate our hiring process by driving better-qualified customer service level candidates through to our general managers,” said Ed Iames, Wawa director of people development. “Simplifying our store managers’ daily lives is of tremendous value because our managers have many responsibilities. Spending less time looking for applicants and more time interviewing better prospective associates should ensure that our future associates are a good fit with our values and culture.”
With a workforce of more 16,000 employees across 560 stores, Wawa needs to maintain a strong recruiting pipeline to replace the natural turnover the company and its managers face.
One way the Deploy product suite will help Wawa alleviate this issue is by eliminating today’s large volume of paper applications — applicants will be able to apply through Wawa’s career Web site or over the phone using Deploy’s interactive voice response (IVR) system.
Eliminating the manual input of an applicant’s information will help reduce the risk of transcription errors and the handling of incomplete applications.
The system will also expedite the availability of applicant background checks for general managers twice as fast.
The Deploy Enterprise Talent Suite will help cut Wawa’s onboarding and training expenses by identifying associates who are more apt to stay on the job longer, allowing them to become proficient at the job.
Associates who stay longer contributes to the family atmosphere Wawa has developed over the years with its loyal customers. This family atmosphere is facilitated in part from Wawa’s commitment to giving associates the opportunity for leadership and advancement through a strong preference to promote from within.
“Deploy is thrilled to be working with such a brand-name company that is known for achieving competitive excellence through its people, culture and innovative spirit,” said Nicole Stata, Deploy Solutions founder and CEO.
