According to Crain’s Chicago Business, two celebrated Chicago-area MBA programs have slipped in new rankings released this month by Bloomberg Businessweek. The list revealed some surprising changes in the B-school space.
The University of Chicago’s Booth of Business, ranked second in last year’s report, this year ranks fourth, and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University — which Bloomberg ranked third in 2015 — dropped to ninth place.
Crain’s reported this year’s numbers were the lowest Kellogg had received since the rankings were first released in 1988 and the worst outcome for Booth since 2000. Poetsandquants.com blogger John Byrne wrote that in the history of the rankings, both schools had been ranked at No. 1 five times.
As for this year’s No. 1, Harvard Business School remained atop the list for the second consecutive year, but Byrne reported a number of shake-ups.
Among them:
- Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University moved up 11 places to enter the rankings’ Top 10 status for the first time.
- Stanford’s Graduate School of Business moved up five places to No. 2.
- Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business moved up five spots to No. 3.
- Dartmouth College’s Tuck School moved up nine spots to No. 5.
- UCLA’s Anderson School of Management dropped nine places to No. 22.
- University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School dropped seven spots to No. 24.
