Prioritizing Well-being and Productivity in a Hybrid Workforce

As we begin to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, some people are returning to an office, some are remaining remote or partially remote, and some never left in the first place. This presents employers with an interesting and complicated set of challenges.

Over the past 18 months, those in health care and essential front-line roles dealt with mounting anxiety related to personal safety and health, uncertainty and heavy workloads. For those working remote, the stress of being stuck at home, taking care of children, and isolation took their toll. However, many remote workers also reported increases in productivity and well-being since March 2020. While age certainly plays a role, with millennials and Gen Z more likely than older generations to say they’ve been more productive since working remotely, these positive changes are also tied to how organizations and leaders are taking care of their people — whether that’s in the form of flexible schedules, improved connectedness and communication, mindfulness of work/life boundaries, or revisiting company values.

So, what about the next 18 months — and beyond? It’s obvious that one size won’t fit all. How can organizations prioritize the happiness, well-being and productivity of their hybrid workforces?
