Journalism think tank Poynter Institute is partnering with GateHouse Mediato provide a new training program for journalists to hone their skills.
GateHouse, whose portfolio includes more than 70 daily newspapers, joins a number of companies and media outlets that have teamed up with Poynter to meet their professional development goals around journalism in recent months.
Poynter President Tim Franklin said in a statement that Poynter worked closely with GateHouse to customize a program to meet the media company’s specific needs. The 2016 certificate training program, which includes instruction from Poynter experts, as well as notable journalists, will focus on digital newsgathering, social media and newsroom leadership skills.
The new program will be available online through the journalism e-learning site Poynter News University. As part of the platform’s Certificate of Proficiency program, GateHouse staff will have to take a selection of courses and successfully complete assessments for each. These NewsU courses cover essential skills and best practices in journalism.
